MAIDI strategises to fight HIV, unemployment in Hoima

Maisha Development Initiative (MAIDI) has started mobilising stakeholders to intensify the fight against HIV spread, unemployment and abortion among other issues affecting the youth.
The organisation looks to realise the dream through outreach training in income generating activities and sensitisation about the dangers of abortion and the HIV/AIDS scourge not only in Hoima but the entire Albertine region at the start.
While speaking at the launch, Rev Fr George William Kaahwa, the Executive Director MAIDI, called for support from all stakeholders to the three challenges that threaten the life and income of more youths.
He said the organisation fights stigma among HIV positive youths, trains all youth in income generating activities including soap making and hand bag making among others.
He said their attention to abortion has been driven by the recent statistics showing an increase in abortions leading to loss of unborn lives and sometimes teenagers and adult mothers.
At the same function held at De Place Hotel in Hoima city yesterday, Mr Michael Chris Ayeranga, the Bunyoro Region Mobiliser for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party urged the youth to either consider abstaining from sex, being faithful or using condoms to avoid catching HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies that sometimes lead them to abortions.
MAIDI, which is currently a registered national Civil Society Organisation (CSO), is born from a Community Based Organisation (CBO) called Bunyoro Youth Development Educators Association (BUYODEA).
The organisation was upgraded with rebrand due to the existence of BUYODEA legal name at the Uganda Services Registration Bureau (URSB) at the time they moved to that level.
